Hey everybody! As most of you are probably aware, February is Black History Month over here in the USA, and so in honor of that, I want to take a couple minutes and share some of my absolute favorite books by black authors!

The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
The Hate U Give is at the top of just about all of my lists. This one is one of my all time favorite books and I reread it pretty often. I’m currently reading it’s prequel Concrete Roses, and so far I’m liking it almost as much as The Hate U Give!

I read this one quite some time ago, and the First Lady still managed to impact me, months later, with her words of wisdom. I have so much respect for her. I can’t wait to read Barack’s new book!

The Poet X – Elizabeth Acevedo
If at all possible, I highly recommend grabbing the audiobook for this title. It’s a super short read, but the author reads the audiobook, and it’s all delivered like slam poetry. It’s a work of art all on its own, but the audiobook for this one elevates it even further! I can’t recommend this one enough!

Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi
I think by now, you all know just how much of a nerd I am about fantasy, so I would be remiss if I didn’t include this one. Children of Blood and Bone ranks up there pretty high on my all time favorite fantasy list. I think that Toni Adeyemi did an incredible job of crafting this world and characters. I absolutely adore this book.

Got a Life Chloe Brown – Talia Hibbert
This one is an incredibly sweet book. I really loved how light the storyline for this one was (it’s your everyday fluff romance, but executed to perfection!), while also tackling the weighty subject of disabled and differently-abled people. If you’re looking for a cute romance than this five star read just might be the one for you!

Here’s the thing. I’m not usually a vampire fan, but when you give me a really good vampire book that has something new and fresh to it, I go CRAZH for it! Cue Fledgling by Octavia Butler. This one follows a young female vampire (but is she really THAT young?) who’s clan was the subject of a massacre. Five stars to this suspenseful read!
What books are you reading this Black History Month?
Happy reading!
